Attorney

Nathaniel Copping has over a decade of experience in the areas of criminal, immigration and family law. He began his career at Southeast Louisiana Legal Services representing foster children in the care of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services. During this time, he also worked as a contract attorney for Catholic Charities of Baton Rouge where he advised immigration detainees of their legal rights and screened foreign nationals for possible relief from deportation.

Seeking a better understanding of the complex prosecutorial machinery of the US Government, Nathaniel joined US Immigration and Customs Enforcement where he served as legal counsel and also as a Homeland Security Investigations special agent. While working for the government, Nathaniel litigated hundreds of immigration cases and arrested dozens of perpetrators of federal crimes ranging from drug trafficking to child exploitation.

After leaving federal service and gaining further experience at one of New Orleans’ premier law firms, Nathaniel opened the Law Office of Nathaniel R. Copping. In addition to managing his law practice, he works as public defender in Terrebonne Parish.

Having spent much of his childhood in Ecuador, Nathaniel is fluent in Spanish.
